Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes co-directs the Center on Aging and Work at Boston College. Pitt-Catsouphes directs the center’s Global Perspectives Institute and State Initiatives Institute, and co-directs the Sloan Workplace Flexibility Institute. She is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Social Work and at the Carroll School of Management.
Pitt-Catsouphes was the co-principal investigator for the 2006 National Study of Business Strategy and Workforce Development and is the co-principal investigator of the Age and Generations Study. She was invited to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging as an issue expert and recently co-edited a 2007 special issue of Generations that focused on aging and work. Pitt-Catsouphes was a recipient of the 2007 Work-Life Legacy Award.
In 1997, Pitt-Catsouphes founded the Sloan Work and Family Research Network, which provides resources about working families to business leaders and state legislators, as well as to academics around the world. She established the network’s State Policy Initiative in 2004.
Working with Center for Families Director Shelley MacDermid, Pitt-Catsouphes was the co-principal investigator for the Nurturing Families Initiative. This research project, sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, involved gathering information about work, family, school, and community experiences from parents and middle school-age children in 199 families.
Pitt-Catsouphes’ articles have been published in a number of scholarly and practitioner journals. She was a founding co-editor for the international journal, Community, Work and Family. Her recent publications include The Work-Family Handbook: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives and Approaches to Research, published in 2006 by Erlbaum Publishers, which she edited with colleagues.
Pitt-Catsouphes received a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University, a master’s degree from Boston College, and a doctorate from Boston University.
